Taking action before temperatures are scheduled to rise to 42°C (108°F) this afternoon, the shop crew at Webco Mill Supply generously donated their time this morning to manually debark western red cedar logs for the local event this upcoming weekend. In addition to the physical work, we also took the opportunity to educate many of the event organizers and spectators about the functionality of debarking machines. We informed them about the wide range of high-quality parts that Webco manufactures for different types of debarkers and how we ship to customers around the world, ensuring reliable performance and durability for sawmill operations everywhere.

Western red cedar has long, stringy bark that frequently causes significant problems in debarking machines. This tough, fibrous bark tends to wrap tightly around critical parts such as feed rolls and debarking arms, making the machines difficult to operate efficiently and preventing a clean, thorough debarking process. Additionally, accumulated bark can pose a serious fire hazard if it is not regularly cleared from the equipment. At Webco Mill Supply, we specialize in providing effective, durable solutions designed to address and prevent these common issues. For more detailed information, please refer to the following article about stringy bark.

While volunteers spent hours manually debarking logs with draw knives and spades, We thoroughly educated everyone on the design principles of ring debarkers and emphasized their crucial importance in the efficiency and productivity of sawmill operations. Needless to say, it was agreed that Webco should take the initiative to design and develop a portable debarker to support such future events!
